One way to reduce wear and tear on the inside of your rental is to provide outdoor spaces and activities for your renters to use. Lawn games and other outdoor activities provide a fun, affordable, and family-friendly experience for your renters. Outdoor games are eco-friendly, as they rarely require electricity. As long as your renters have agreeable weather, they should be good to go with most lawn games!

Here are some of our favorites:

Bocce Ball

Bocce (pronounced baw-chee) can be played on soil, grass, or asphalt.  In bocce, the only object is for one or more of your team's balls to be closer than any of your opponent's balls to the pallina (small target ball, often white) at the end of every set. You can find more detailed instructions here. Bocce sets can be purchased at sporting goods stores, Target, or Walmart starting at $30.

Ladder Ball

To play Ladder Ball, which is known by many other names including Bolo ball, "toss the bolos (balls on a string) underhand, overhand or side arm at the ladder rung. The goal is to have the bolo wrap itself around one of the rungs and potentially score a point. It must wrap around one of the three rungs and not the side of the ladder. Play defensively by knocking off the other teams bolos or cross canceling their point by landing on the same rung."*Ladder Ball sets can be purchased at sporting goods stores, Target, or Walmart starting at $30.

Baggo

Baggo, also known as Cornhole or Bag Toss, is played by taking turns throwing bean bags at a raised platform with a hole in the far end. A bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1 point. Play continues until a team or player reaches the score of 21.

Baggo sets can be purchased at sporting goods stores, Target, Walmart, or Amazon starting at $65.

Badminton

Badminton "is a racquet sport played by either two opposing players (singles) or two opposing pairs (doubles), who take positions on opposite halves of a rectangular court that is divided by a net. Players score points by striking a shuttlecock with their racquet so that it passes over the net and lands in their opponents' half of the court. Each side may only strike the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. A rally ends once the shuttlecock has struck the floor, or if a fault has been called by either the umpire or service judge or, in their absence, the offending player, at any time during the rally."* Badminton sets can be purchased for as low as $40.
